FG Sge
FG Sge is one of the most unique variable stars known.
Evolving as we watch, it's variations are totally unpredictable.
Before 1992, FG Sge spent many years as a magnitude 9 star. The star
has also evolved and cooled from a B type star to it's present type K2 in
just over a century. Theory speculates as to whether FG Sge is an
evolving RCB star. It's the
central star of the Planetary Nebula PK060.3-07.3
Low states are a good time to try to capture the associated Planetary Nebula
PK060.3-07.3. This 50 second exposure with the
Bradford Robotic Telescope (North to
top, East to left), reveals the 30 arc second 16th magnitude elusive
nebulosity. (Aug 19.072UT, 2009). FG Sge is arrowed (Mag C=17.3)
